Musée d'Orsay

The exhibition "The 150 Years of Impressionism: 1874 - 2024" takes place at the Musée d'Orsay from March 26th to July 14th, 2024. This exhibition highlights 178 artworks loaned by 34 institutions, representing 13 regions.

The Musée d'Orsay, home to the world's largest collection of impressionist works, celebrates the 150th anniversary of this revolutionary artistic movement. For the occasion, a selection of masterpieces leaves Paris to be exhibited throughout France.

This ambitious initiative, conceived by the museum's director, aims to share the wealth of the impressionist movement. The loans include strictly impressionist works as well as pre, para, and post-impressionist works, offering a comprehensive perspective on the evolution of this artistic movement.

The artworks will travel to 34 partner institutions across 13 regions of France, providing the public with an exceptional opportunity to discover or rediscover the impact of Impressionism throughout the country.

From Tourcoing to Réunion Island, from Limoges to Ornans, this national exhibition highlights the crucial role of Impressionist painters in depicting light, landscapes, and daily life in France. These artists were able to capture the societal changes of their time with a unique sensitivity.

This celebration pays tribute to the Impressionists' contribution to French and global art history, emphasizing their lasting influence on future artistic movements, from Expressionism to abstraction.
